African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) visited Linda Liu & Partners
In the morning of March 21st, Mr. Denis L. BOHOUSSOU, the General Manager of OAPI, and Mr. Issoufou KABORE, the Director of Trade Marks and Distinctive Signs of OAPI paid a visit to Linda Liu & Partners in Beijing. Mr. Maojia Li, the vice president of Linda Liu & Partners, Mr. Petr Zhang, the manager of Domestic Department, Ms. Sophia XIAO, the partner of Trademark Department, Mr. Richard GAO, the group leader of Trademark Department, and Ms. Crystal DOU from Business Management Department received the guests afar. Some in-depth opinions on intellectual property rights protection in China and Africa were exchanged during the meeting.
Mr. Issoufou KABORE first gave a brief introduction to the structure of OAPI. OAPI is headquartered in Cameroon and currently has 17 member countries. OAPI provides protection to invention patents, utility model, trademarks of products and services, industrial designs, trade names, geographical indications, plant varieties, integrated circuit layout designs, copyrights and neighboring rights. In recent years, OAPI has implemented a number of initiatives, which has a positive impact on the socio-economic development of member countries.
Mr. Issoufou KABORE introduced that China is currently Africa’s largest trading country. As more and more Chinese companies invest in Africa and carry out various economic and trade activities, how to strengthen their IP rights has become a very important issue. OAPI welcomes Chinese enterprises to apply for patents and trademarks in Africa and is also committed to providing various services and policies to protect the IP rights of Chinese companies. Mr. Maojia LI also expressed our willingness to strengthen cooperation with OAPI so as to better assist Chinese enterprises when they go abroad to invest.
