The total number of China’s three kinds of patent applications exceeds 4.829 million! The main intellectual property statistics from Jan. to Nov. 2020 are released
Recently, China National Intellectual Property Administration (Hereinafter referred to as “CNIPA”) released the main intellectual property statistics from Jan. to Nov. 2020. According to the statistics, the total number of invention, utility model and design patent applications exceeds 4.829 million with a year-on-year growth of 24%, surpassing 2019’s annual number of 4.38 million.
I. Patent:
From Jan. to Nov. 2020, the number of China's invention patent applications was 1.403 million, and 470,000 were granted. As of the end of Nov. 2020, China had 3.01 million valid invention patents, among that 2.168 million were from mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and the number of invention patents per 10,000 people reached 15.5.
From Jan. to Nov., China's utility model patent applications were 2.726 million, and 2.152 million were granted. As of the end of Nov. 2020, China had 6.788 million valid utility model patents.
From Jan. to Nov., the application number of China’s design patent was 700,000, 672,000 of which were granted. As of the end of Nov. 2020, the valid design patents were 2.156 million.
From Jan. to Nov., CNIPA received 62,000 PCT applications. Among these, 57,000 were from domestic applicants.
From Jan. to Nov., CNIPA accepted 49,600 reexamination requests and 44,900 were concluded. The number of accepted invalidation requests was 5,500, and 6,800 cases were concluded.
II. Trademark:
From Jan. to Nov. 2020, the number of trademark applications in China was 8.409 million, and the amount of registered trademarks was 5.173 million. By the end of Nov. 2020, the number of valid registered trademark was 29.652 million.
From Jan. to Nov., 120,000 trademark opposition applications were filed and 132,000 were examined.
From Jan. to Nov., 6,933 applications for Madrid Trademark Registration of Chinese applicants were received by CNIPA.
From Jan. to Nov., CNIPA received 327,000 applications for various trademark review cases and 325,000 were concluded.
III. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design:
From Jan. to Nov. 2020, CNIPA accepted 4 geographical indication applications, and approved 2 applications for products protected by geographical indication. CNIPA approved 836 enterprises to use the special signs of geographical indications and 697 geographical indication trademark registrations. As of the end of Nov. 2020, a total of 2,387 products protected by geographical indication were approved, 9,333 enterprises were approved for the use of special signs, and a total number of 6,015 geographical indication trademarks were registered.
From Jan. to Nov. 2020, the number of applications for integrated circuit layout design registrations in China was 12,199, and 9,798 certificates were issued.
