Guangdong Province, Beijing, Zhejiang Province, Shanghai and Jiangsu Province are leading in the number of trademark applications

Trademark Office of State Administration for Industry & Commerce (AIC) released the statistics of trademark applications and registrations of each province, autonomous region, and municipality on its official website on February 7, 2017. According to the statistics, Guangdong Province, Beijing, Zhejiang Province, Shanghai and Jiangsu Province are the top 5 provinces (or cities) in the number of the trademark applications in 2016.

In 2016, based on the deployment of deepening the Reform made by central CPC central committee, Trademark Office of AIC implemented the requirements of “streamlining administration, delegating power to the lower levels and strengthening regulations, and optimizing the service” by State Council and made the deployment of the reform of facilitating the trademark registration, and a series of reform measures were rooted. 15 acceptance windows for trademark application and registration were established and are running, which enable the applicants to file nearby; 30 regional acceptance points for trademark pledge registration were built, solving the financing difficulties of enterprises; the first trademark review collaboration center outside Beijing hung out a single and is running in Guangzhou…China’s national trademark applications number reached to 3.691 million in 2016, ranking the first for 15 consecutive years across the world, the reform of facilitating the trademark registrations already showing results.

According to the statistics, Guangdong Province, Beijing, Zhejiang Province, Shanghai and Jiangsu Province are the top 5 provinces (or cities) in the number of the trademark registrations in 2016, with 689,434 cases, 372,387 cases, 327,572 cases, 257,616 cases, 209,900 cases respectively, among which, for the first time the application number of Zhejiang Province broke 300,000 while Jiangsu Province broke 200,000. The ranking of the top 5 provinces and cities has no change compared with the year of 2015.

The reporter noticed that there were another two provinces which broke the mark of 100,000 applications compared with the year of 2015, namely Sichuan Province and Henan Province. In 2016, the application numbers in Shandong Province, Fujian Province, Henan Province and Sichuan Province exceeded 100,000, with 184,490 cases, 175,392 cases, 129,946 cases, and 126,300 cases respectively.

In terms of the number of valid registrations nationwide, the top 5 provinces (or cities) are Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, Beijing, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai, with 2,043,798 cases, 1,315,742 cases, 893,743 cases, 743,670 cases, 697,251 cases respectively, among which, for the first time the valid registration number in Guangdong Province exceeded 2 million.
